Peaks & Plains Roadbook

Hello,

Congratulations on securing your spot at Peaks & Plains 2025! We hope you’re as excited as we are.

To reduce email traffic, we have decided to create a centralized roadbook this year, where we will keep all available information up to date and answer frequently asked questions.

It's best to save the link directly. You will be best friends as the event gets closer. Trust us :)

Peaks and Plain - Roadbook

  • Rules

    NAVIGATION
Participants must follow the prescribed route. Anyone who shortcuts will be disqualified. If a participant leaves the route, they must continue from the point where they left it.

    LIVE GPS TRACKING
Participants must carry the GPS tracker provided by us at all times. This allows us and others to follow Peaks & Plains on the official website.

    SELF-SUFFICIENCY
Peaks & Plains must be completed in full self-sufficiency: food, drinks, equipment, spare parts and sleeping equipment must be brought along from the start or purchased along the way. Assistance from third parties is not allowed. This also includes drafting (except for pairs). Accommodations cannot be booked (e.g. Hotels, AirBnB, ...) or organized (like parking your camper van) before the start.

    ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS
All participants must behave in an environmentally conscious manner: dispose of waste properly, respect nature, and leave everything as they found it (or better).

    PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY
Peaks & Plains takes place on public roads and is NOT closed to traffic. Participants must follow the traffic rules. Helmets and lights are mandatory. Violations of traffic regulations can result in immediate disqualification (e.g. running red lights or crossing closed railway crossings).

    RACE CONTROL
These rules cannot foresee every situation. If necessary, we will evaluate the circumstances and make our decision. Any decision made by race control is final.

    Surface & Tire recommendation:
Peaks & Plains is a road bike challenge, but the route still includes around 11km of gravel. Most of this can be found at the top of the Wurmberg and around the Hanskühnenburg.
We recommend slick tires with 30mm (or more) width and a lower gear ratio of around 1:1 (1.0) for all the average humans and mortal people here at this event.

    ATTENTION:
Km 194 - 196 (when leaving Rothesütte): Downhill section on hard packed gravel, partially loose bits, partially steep. GO SLOW!!!

The finish line for the leaderboard and official time-cut will be the Magdeburg city town sign. The track will, of course, take you back to the start/finish location.

  • Stamps

    Yes, stamps :)

The Harz region is full of stamp stations, so it only makes sense for us to use them as check points. All stamp stations are located directly on the route.

At check-in, you will receive a brevet card that needs to be stamped.

    Locations in (currently) random order:

    • Sophienhof
    • Brocken
    • Wurmberg
    • Ravensberg
    • Hanskühnenburg
